The BDWF is a Nijmegen focussed group. The Committee uses the time throughout the year to review the previous year and concentrate on improving things for our members the next year. Due to cost and time commitments our support and first aid members cannot commit to helping at every event our walkers attend.
RAF WARMA 23rd/ 24th April
There are two walks that our support crews do attend each year. These are RAF WARMA and RAF Lyneham. We attend both these events as they are the qualifying walks for the military and our students. Both are two day events with a range of distance options from approximately 15 miles a day, up to the full 32
This two day road march takes place annually thanks to the commitment of the RAF Walking and Road Marching Association. This is a two day event with a maximum walking distance of 25 miles on each day. Other shorter routes are available for you to participate in, you are also not committed to walking on both days, you are able to choose your distance and days on the application form which can be found at: http://www.rafwarma.co.uk
The walk starts and finishes at DCAE Cosford, Nr Wolverhampton. WV7 3EX. DCAE Cosford is located on the A41 just south of Junction 3 of the M54, follow signs for RAF Museum from the M54 motorway. All walkers must return off the routes by 1700 on Saturday and 1600 on Sunday. Walkers will be required to bring Photo-ID (Passport or Photo Driving Licence) along with receipt of entry for access to the start at DCAE Cosford.
“RAFWARMA welcomes both serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces, Cadet Forces and Civilians. It caters for both the “serious” road marcher and those interested in the more fun type events“
The BDWF supplies the first aid support for this event, treating all participants.
RAF Lyneham 28th/ 29th May
RAF Lyneham is not associated with RAFWARMA. It usually takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend in May. This is a three day event with a minimum walking distance of 25 miles on each day for the military participants. Adult members can opt to walk on as few or as many days as they like. This is the qualifying event for BDWF students, who must complete the Saturday and Sunday. Again, the BDWF support crew offer their services to cover this walk on Saturday and Sunday only.
